We’ve received quite a few questions from customers about how to install a floor-standing air conditioner. That’s totally understandable—this type of AC is still relatively uncommon in the U.S.

To help make the process clearer, we’ve put together a step-by-step installation guide. It covers the tools you'll need, key installation requirements, and potential challenges you may run into.

Key Installation Guidelines

Electrical Setup

• Dedicated Circuit: The unit must be connected to a dedicated 230V power circuit to meet its energy demands.
• Breaker Requirements: For TOSOT models, we recommend a 230V, 50-amp double-pole circuit breaker.
• Grounding: Proper grounding is essential to prevent electric shock and ensure safe operation.

Placement and Mounting

• Stable Surface: The unit must be placed on a flat, stable surface to reduce vibration and noise. Avoid installing it in laundry rooms or bathrooms.
• Clearance: Leave at least 12 inches of space on all sides to ensure proper airflow and allow for maintenance.
• Avoid Direct Sunlight: Keep the unit out of direct sunlight to improve energy efficiency.

Drainage

• Proper Slope: The condensate drain pipe should slope downward at a minimum of 1/100 to allow for smooth drainage.
• Sealed Connections: Use waterproof tape or other suitable sealing materials to prevent leaks at pipe joints.
• Insulation: Insulate the drain pipe to prevent condensation from damaging floors or walls.

Refrigerant Handling

• Refrigerant Type: This unit uses R32 refrigerant. It comes pre-charged for a standard 16-foot (approx. 4.9m) line set. If your installation requires longer lines, additional refrigerant will need to be added.
• Vacuum Process: Before opening the outdoor unit’s service valves, use a vacuum pump to pull the system into a negative pressure of -0.1 MPa. Maintain this vacuum for 10–15 minutes. Then turn off the pump, wait 5 minutes, and confirm the pressure holds steady before opening the valves.】

Can I Install It Myself?

Our user manual includes step-by-step instructions, but it’s important to be aware of the complexity involved:

• Technical Skill Required: You’ll need knowledge of electrical wiring, copper piping, and precise equipment placement.
• Safety Risks: Improper installation can lead to electrical issues or refrigerant leaks. R32 is a flammable refrigerant, so extra care is needed.
• Warranty Issues: Installations performed by non-certified individuals may void the manufacturer's warranty.

If you have HVAC experience and the right tools, DIY installation might be possible. But for most homeowners, we strongly recommend hiring a licensed professional to ensure safety and compliance with local building codes.

“I’ve Installed a Mini-Split Before—Can I Handle This One?”

That’s a great question—and a common one too. If you’ve installed a single-zone mini-split, this might feel familiar. Both systems use a split configuration and require connecting refrigerant lines.

The main difference? Mini-splits need to be mounted on the wall and require drilling for the line set. With floor-standing ACs, you skip the wall mounting—they sit directly on the floor, which can make installation easier physically.

However, floor-standing models typically use more power and may require a more substantial electrical setup. So while you won’t have to lift and mount anything, the electrical side of things can be more demanding. If you’re confident in handling refrigerant and electrical systems, you might be able to do it yourself. But for most people, we still recommend working with a pro.

Final Thoughts

Installing a floor-standing air conditioner is a serious project. From electrical wiring to refrigerant charging, every step affects long-term performance and safety. While experienced users may choose to install it themselves, professional installation is usually the safer, more reliable option.
